EPA urges public to use door-to-door waste collection service

Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has urged the public to use the door-to-door waste collection service.

In a public announcement regarding waste management in Male' City, EPA urged the public to refrain from dumping waste bags onto the streets and pavements for waste collection and requested waste management workers to avoid gathering waste bags in the streets and pavements as collection points. It stated that the streets and pavements should be kept clean for public health and requested the residents and workers adhere to the waste management regulations.

EPA made the statement as part of the efforts to improve waste management services. The agency noted that the government had provided leeway for waste management services during the COVID-19 lockdown in order to continue providing the services in Male' City without overburdening the services.

Residents of the Greater Male' Region began separating waste before collection in June. However, Waste Management Corporation Limited (WAMCO) has expressed concern over some households not properly separating their waste. The company noted that some households cut plastic bottles before packing, which violates the standards for recycling the material.
