The Stipendium Hungaricum Scholarship has been awarded to 13 Maldivians under an agreement signed between the Ministry of Higher Education of the Maldives and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade of Hungary.
Under the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed in 2021, a total of 48 Maldivian students will have the opportunity to study in Hungary. As such, 13 students have been awarded scholarships this year. The students will study at nine Hungarian universities. The scholarships offered include bachelor's degree, master's degree, and doctoral degree level courses. The scholarships include Mechatronic Engineering, Business Administration and Management, Professional Pilot, Medical Diagnostic Analysis, English Studies, International Economics and Business, Advanced Practice Nursing, Public Policy and Management, and International Relations.
Speaking at the ceremony, Minister of Higher Education Ibrahim Hassan said 13 students were selected from among many students and advised to make the best use of the opportunity. He stated that the students would be representing the Maldives as a whole and advised them to be on their best behaviour.
All expenses for the courses, apart from airfares, will be funded by the Government of Hungary. The ministry said the air tickets will be funded by the Government of the Maldives.
