Ministry of Education has urged against making the development of schools a political issue.
The government has been working with the relevant authorities to establish essential public services in Hulhumale’ Phase 2, which currently consists of apartment buildings. As more residents move in, the biggest issue they have faced is having to take their children to schools in Male’ City.
In order to solve the issue, two schools are being developed in Hulhumale’ Phase 2, of which Salahuddin School is scheduled to open in January 2023. The government has also opened a temporary preschool school named Kamil Didi Primary School. The school has all the facilities and resources needed for students.
Speaking to PSM News, Deputy Minister of Education Ahmed Mujahid said that the preschool has all the facilities that are available in a primary school and that it has eased the burden of residents of Hiyaa flats in Hulhumale’ Phase 2. He also noted that the government has been working to fix the issues in the existing school. He detailed the work to finish the development of the new Dharumavantha School building, and the work done to install air conditioners in the current school building.
Furthermore, Mujahid said schools are the foundation of the academic path of students and that making it a political issue is an irresponsible act. He noted that students attend school from various households and areas and expressed concern over criticisms being made towards schools.
The education ministry stated that the school development projects in Hulhumale’ will add 6,000 slots for students.
