Parked vehicles that hinder minibus travel to be towed

Maldives Police Service (MPS) has revealed any parked vehicles that hinder minibus travel in Male’ City will be towed.

MPS began the work after Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC) commenced the Raajje Transport Link (RTL) minibus service in Male’ City on September 5. Parking has been banned on Majeedhee Magu and Ameenee Magu to make way for the bus routes, and special parking zones are being established in the areas.

However, MPS stated that vehicles were seen parked on the bus routes during the first 24 hours of the service and that some vehicles were frequently overtaking the minibuses. MPS stated that officers will be taking action against those that hinder bus travel and will be placing stickers and towing any vehicle parked on the bus routes when necessary. The police service implored the public to adhere to the traffic regulations to maintain public safety.

Major changes have been made to the traffic in Ameenee Magu for the minibus service, including restricting the travel of four-wheeled vehicles to one side of certain parts of the road from 1130hrs to 1800hrs. Additional traffic police officers are also active and will take action against drivers who violate the new regulations.

The minibuses are travelling on Majeedhee Magu, Ameenee Magu, Orchid Magu, and Fareedhee Magu. A total of 12 buses are being used for the service in the capital city.
