Morocco provides 20 scholarship opportunities for Maldivians

The Ministry of Higher Education has opened 20 scholarship opportunities to study in Morocco.

The higher education ministry will be accepting applications until September 13 from students interested in pursuing higher education in Moroccan universities. As such, applications are open for bachelor’s degrees, master’s degrees, and courses in doctor of philosophy (Ph.D.).

The higher education ministry will accept applications from individuals who have received government assistance for higher studies and if they have been serving as public servants after their studies. Additionally, individuals who have taken a loan from the higher education ministry will be accepted if they have been consistently making their loan payments. Applicants are also required to have a lower education certificate than the ones being offered and to not be involved in an ongoing course sponsored by the government.

The courses will be taught in the French language and the final selection process will be conducted by the Moroccan universities, according to the higher education ministry. Applicants will be offered French language lessons after being accepted. The ministry stated that being able to speak the Arabic language is a requirement and that the course fees will be paid for by the government. Students will also receive a monthly allowance but will have to pay for registration, transportation, and accommodation.

The Government of Morocco is offering higher education opportunities as part of an agreement made during a visit by Minister of Foreign Affairs Abdulla Shahid in 2019. Under the annual scholarship scheme, Morocco is providing 20 annual scholarships for Maldivian students in scientific, technical, and economic fields in addition to academic programmes in Islamic studies, Arabic language and literature.
