Addu Khateeb suspended for giving personalised sermon

Ministry of Islamic Affairs has suspended a khateeb in Addu City for giving a personalised Friday sermon without consulting the sermon committee.

The Islamic ministry stated that the khateeb had given an unauthorised sermon in Meedhoo in Addu and that he will be suspended for the remainder of the investigation being conducted by the sermon committee.

The committee is investigating the preacher for giving a sermon after making changes to the authorised text, which is against the regulations. The committee stated that altering the text of a Friday sermon might result in negative consequences. The committee in Addu will soon be submitting the report of its investigation to the Islamic ministry.
