First Lady Fazna Ahmed has attended a ceremony held to mark World Physiotherapy Day. The ceremony was held by the Faculty of Health and Science of the Maldives National University (MNU).
At the ceremony, First Lady Fazna launched a video made for MNU’s physiotherapy programme to commemorate the occasion. The video highlighted the importance of physiotherapy and physiotherapists. The first lady also visited the stalls at the event to receive information on the physiotherapy courses provided by MNU and meet the faculty and students.
At the event, the Dean of the Faculty of Health and Science Dr. Aishath Shanoora said that physiotherapy is important for the recovery of patients. She noted that the number of students who wish to enroll in physiotherapy courses is increasing and said that physiotherapists have opportunities to work in many sectors and facilities and not just in hospitals. She detailed that those who train in physiotherapy are able to work on physical maintenance, work at many organisations, as well as participate in risk assessment.
A total of 54 students enrolled in MNU's physiotherapy programme participated in the event, along with hospitals and organisations. Physiotherapists around the world observe World Physiotherapy Day on September 8 to raise awareness of the vital contributions their profession makes to people's physical health.
