More individuals keen on education sector after new pay structure

Minister of Education Dr. Aishath Ali has said the positive changes in the pay structure have increased the number of individuals keen to work in the education sector.

Responding to questions at the Parliament of the Maldives, Minister Aishath said the findings of a study showed that one main concern was related to the salaries of the education sector. She said other concerns were raised regarding the lack of space and resources, noting efforts are underway to solve the main concerns, with priority being given to improving the salary structure.

Following the changes to the structure, salaries of all teachers have been increased to an amount between USD250-650. The government is making positive changes to the findings of the study on the concerns in the education sector. The changes in salary structure have brought positive results such as attracting more people to join the education sector, according to the minister.

The changes to the pay structure of the education sector were first announced during the 2022 Presidential Address delivered by President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih at the Parliament. The new pay structure is part of the government’s efforts to provide better wages for all in the workforce that contribute to national progress.
