Gov’t to provide financial assistance to self-employed persons

Ministry of Economic Development has opened the opportunity for self-employed persons who were affected by the COVID-19 pandemic to receive financial assistance of up to USD3,900.

The economic ministry is providing financial assistance in collaboration with the World Bank under the COVID-19 Emergency Income Support Project, which aims to provide training and support to those who were financially affected by the pandemic. The ministry has opened the opportunity to self-employed persons working in the food industry, handicraft, beauty and makeup, photography and videography, sewing and textiles, information and communications technology (ICT), creative arts and music, and sports and fitness.

Eligible applicants will receive a grant of up to USD3,900 after they complete a training programme. The ministry will be choosing 500 applicants for the programme, of which 40% are reserved for women. Interested individuals are required to submit their applications via the Job Centre website, which has further relevant information.

The government has been providing training and financial assistance to small and medium enterprises (SMEs) affected by the COVID-19 pandemic.
