Centre for Holy Quran raises over USD3,300 for Pakistan

The Centre for Holy Quran has raised more than USD3,300 to help Pakistan overcome the humanitarian crisis.

The Centre for Holy Quran revealed that more than USD3,300 has been received from the fund box set up on the grounds of the King Salman Mosque from 0800hrs to 2100hrs on October 2, adding the funds were handed over to the Pakistan-Maldives Friendship Association (PMFA) at a ceremony held at the High Commission of Pakistan in the Maldives.

The centre assured it will always take the lead in assisting in such humanitarian disasters. The centre also appreciated the students and parents for their cooperation in the initiative.

The Maldives has launched several initiatives to assist Pakistan to help those affected by devastating floods. As such, donations can be made to the accounts of PMFA through Dhiraagu Pay and Ooredoo M-Faisa. Meanwhile, a telethon initiated by the High Commission of Pakistan in the Maldives, PMFA, the state-run Public Service Media (PSM), and other media outlets raised more than USD161,800.

Unusually heavy monsoon rains have caused devastating floods in both the north and south of Pakistan, affecting more than 33 million people and killing more than 1,600 people. The South Asian nation was already in an economic crisis, facing high inflation, a depreciating currency, and a current account deficit. The United Nations (UN) states that the humanitarian crisis in the country will worsen in the coming days.
