Teachers must be exemplary to students: Education Minister

Minister of Education Dr. Aishath Ali has urged teachers to set an example with the virtues they want to instill in students. She made the statement in her address on the occasion of World Teachers' Day 2022.

In her address on the occasion of Teachers' Day, Minister Aishath said teachers are the ones who implement every significant change in the education sector, adding the direction of the future is shaped by teachers. The minister said learning is not based solely on the lessons taught by the teachers, adding that students will also learn from the behaviour of teachers and relationships with students and society as well as the way teachers treat others. She noted teachers who meet students at the most influential age in their lives are the ones who shape their behaviour and relationships.

Furthermore, Minister Aishath called on all teachers to set an example of the noble qualities students should heed such as respecting and loving the religion and country, caring for each other, respecting each other, and being economical. She stressed the need to bring changes in teaching methods to build students who are aware of the rapidly developing world.
