National Centre for the Holy Quran has said Hafizes will be required to complete a special programme to test them every four years.
The centre decided to conduct the programme as some Hafizes keep forgetting the Holy Quran due to not reviewing or studying after obtaining the certificate. The centre also aims to solve the difficulties encountered in finding Hafizes to perform Taraweeh prayers during Ramadan in islands.
Speaking to PSM News, Coordinator Ali Waheed said that although many people are learning the Holy Quran by heart, there are difficulties in getting Hafizes for Taraweeh prayers during Ramadan. He said some Hafizes lack confidence that they can perform Taraweeh prayers without having time to review the Holy Quran after memorising it.
The centre is also responsible for maintaining the register of Hafizes. The new rule will include that Hafizes can be registered by participating in the special programme conducted by the centre.
