Vashafaru Health Centre to be expanded

The Ministry of Health has contracted companies to expand the health centre in Vashafaru, Haa Alifu Atoll, and to purchase and install new equipment in Faafu Atoll Hospital in Nilandhoo.

The health ministry contracted Samaaz Maldives Private Limited to construct an extension building and to build an outer wall around the health centre within 150 days at a cost of USD129,000. The ministry also contracted Medland Private Limited for the installation of central oxygen, medical air, and vacuum systems at Faafu Atoll Hospital within 150 days at a cost of USD146,000.

The government has opened tenders for the construction of five more hospitals. The government has opened tenders to find a contractor to construct hospitals in Molhadhoo in Haa Alifu Atoll, Maaungoodhoo in Shaviyani Atoll, Fodhdhoo and Kudafari Noonu Atoll, and Naalaafushi in Meemu Atoll.

A total of 22 hospitals are currently being developed as part of the government's efforts to strengthen health services in the atolls including the establishment of tertiary hospitals in five regions of the country. The government will also give top priority to the development of the health sector in next year's budget.
