OMRAN express interest to invest in the Maldives

Oman Tourism Development Company (OMRAN) has expressed interest in investing in the Maldives. Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of OMRAN Hashil bin Obaid Al-Mahrouqi made the remark during a meeting with Minister of Foreign Affairs Abdulla Shahid and representatives of Oman Investment Authority (OIA).

OMRAN is the executive arm of Oman responsible for delivering the objectives contained in Oman’s 2040 National Tourism Strategy. The OIA is Oman’s sovereign wealth fund and the main investment arm that undertakes the investment of the financial surplus achieved from oil and gas revenues.

Minister Shahid is visiting Oman as the Special Envoy of President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih. During the meeting, Minister Shahid briefed Al-Mahrouqi on President Solih’s economic agenda, the post-pandemic economic recovery efforts, and the current economic situation of the Maldives. He explained the advantages of investing in the Maldives and gave details of investment opportunities, including in the southern and northern regions.

CEO of OMRAN Al-Mahrouqi noted that the opportunities that exist in the Maldives are of great interest to Omani businesses and expressed his hope to work together to pursue those opportunities in the future. In this regard, they discussed possible next steps in order to take the discussion further.
