Ministry of Tourism has revealed that the number of beds offered by guesthouses has exceeded 14,000.
According to the latest daily update report of 2022 released by the tourism ministry, a total of 14,006 beds have been brought into operation from 855 facilities as of October 18. The statistics show that 7,465 beds are available from guesthouses in Kaafu Atoll, 1,876 beds in Alifu Alifu Atoll, and 1,178 beds in Alifu Dhaalu Atoll. The total number of beds in operation in the country has reached 58,671. The number stood at 58,461 in September. An additional 210 beds have been brought into operation within a month.
The tourism ministry stated that the total number of tourism beds brought into operation includes 40,147 beds in resorts, 14,006 beds in guest houses, 16 beds in homestays, 2,886 beds in liveaboards, and 1,616 beds in hotels. According to the number of tourist facilities brought into operation, a total of 1,191 tourist facilities including 164 resorts, 855 guesthouses, three homestay facilities, 156 safaris, and 13 hotels have been opened to tourists.
The ministry stated has been an increase in tourist arrivals in the Maldives. According to the ministry, 1.27 million tourists visited the Maldives in 2022, which is an increase of 34.3% compared to 949,605 tourists during the same period in 2021.
