GPE elects Maldivian Education Minister as Board Bember

Minister of Education Aishath Ali has been elected as the Alternate Board Member to represent the Asia and Pacific Constituency in the Global Partnership in Education (GPE).

GPE is the largest global funding partner dedicated solely to transforming education in lower-income countries. The quality of education in more than 70 countries is being improved under the GPE.

The opportunity to appoint members to the GPE board was opened and among the nominees, Minister Aishath Ali was elected as a board member of the fund with the support of all member countries. As a board member, she will work on the policies, decision-making, and rules of the GPE.

The main objective of the fund is to seek financial assistance from donors, associations, large private businesses, banks, and high-income countries to fund education in low-income countries. The fund also advocates for the removal of barriers surrounding education in other countries.
