Character is seen in the way others are treated: Islamic Minister

Minister of Islamic Affairs Dr. Ahmed Zahir Ali has stated that the most important characteristic of an individual is the way they treat others. He made the statement while speaking at the 896th anniversary to commemorate the day the Maldives embraced Islam.

The special ceremony was held in the Islamic Centre and was attended by President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih, Vice President Faisal Naseem, ministers, and senior government officials. In addition, members of the public and school students were also present.

Speaking at the ceremony, Minister Zahir gave important messages to society by taking examples from ancient Islamic stories. He said that Islam was the guidance that brought the small country to the path of light. He also said the morality of the people and the whole society has changed for the better with the guidance of Islam.

Additionally, Minister Zahir said that there were various controversial views even in the history of Islam. He, however, said Muslims come together and find solutions. Therefore, he said the noble character of respecting each other should be maintained even with differences of opinion. He also said that to prove oneself on the morality of Islam, an individual must think deeply about their actions. He said the character of an individual is determined by their actions and the way they treat others in society. Therefore, he urged the public to think and review themselves.

The Maldives embraced Islam in 1153. The day has been a national holiday since 2001.
