Island Aviation Services Limited (IASL) has revealed the national airline, Maldivian, will be bringing in three ATR aircraft for domestic flights.
Speaking to PSM News, Deputy Managing Director Aishath Jennifer said that the acquisition of three ATR aircraft has started this year, which includes two ATR 72s and one ATR 42 aircraft. She said that two of the ATR 72 aircraft will be delivered in December and the other is expected to be delivered in January.
The national airline stated that ATR 72 has a seating capacity of 74 passengers and ATR 42 has a capacity of 50 passengers. The new aircraft will have low fuel consumption and low maintenance costs.
The national airline has previously revealed plans to release its largest aircraft in the fleet to acquire a new long-haul aircraft. Maldivian currently has 23 aircraft in its fleet and operates in international sectors including Trivandrum and Cochin in India and Dhaka in Bangladesh.
