MCS begins operation to provide treatment to prisoners

Maldives Correctional Service (MCS) has begun an operation to provide medical treatment that is unavailable to prisoners.

The three-week operation aims to transfer prisoners to hospitals and health centres to provide specialist services that are unavailable at prisons. Around 70 officers are involved in escorting prisoners as they travel to hospitals and health centres, make doctor’s appointments, and complete medical tests.

All prison officers are involved in the operation, including first-class officers and other high-ranking officers. Commissioner of Prisons Ahmed Mohamed Didi and the senior management are also participating in the operation in order to determine the challenges in escorting prisoners and implement systematic solutions.
