RDC prepares to begin work at second segment of Ameenee Magu

Road Development Corporation (RDC) has begun preparations to begin the development of the second segment of Ameenee Magu.

The redevelopment of Ameenee Magu was inaugurated on August 30. RDC has split the redevelopment of the road into 13 segments and commenced the first segment of the project on September 12, closing off 100m of the road in Henveiru that connects to Boduthakurufaanu Magu. The company has finished laying curbstones and installing water and sewerage pipes and cables in the first segment and is making final preparations to install the stormwater drainage system and laying asphalt.

Speaking to PSM News, Manager of Road Implementation Ibrahim Gasim said RDC will be commencing fieldwork for the second segment next week on 136m of the road between Irudheymaa Hingun and Kalaafaanu Hingun. He said the company has requested the Maldives Police Service (MPS) to remove the parked vehicles in the area in order to begin digging.

RDC has noted that the biggest challenge is that Ameenee Magu does not have adequate drawings to show the depth of the road. As a result, the company has been facing challenges since the first day of excavation as the available documents are not accurate.

The contract for the redevelopment of Ameenee Magu was signed between RDC and the Ministry of National Planning, Housing and Infrastructure on July 3. The project involves paving the whole 1.7km length of Ameenee Magu with asphalt and installing a new stormwater drainage system. The project was contracted to RDC at a price of USD5.5 million. The duration of the project is seven months.
