Flats developed by current administration to be handed over from May 2023

Ministry of National Planning, Housing and Infrastructure has revealed the flats developed under the housing projects of the current administration will be handed over from May next year.

The most important housing project currently underway is the construction of 4,000 housing units under the Gedhoruveriya housing scheme. The housing projects initiated by the government include some projects contracted to private companies and projects implemented by the Fahi Dhiriulhun Corporation Limited.

The largest of these projects is the 4,000-unit Gedhoruveriyaa project of the Fahi Dhiriulhun. The construction of the 4,000 housing units was contracted to two companies; 2,000 housing units each. As such, the construction was handed over to JMC Projects and NBCC Limited. The project includes 1,200 two-bedroom housing units of 650sqft and 2,800 three-bedroom housing units of 900sqft. More than 20,000 people have applied for the 4,000 units.

Senior Executive Director Mohamed Arif of the Planning Ministry said previous governments started working on the housing projects near the end of their terms, adding the current government started work in 2020 and some of the projects in the islands have been completed. He said some units have now been handed over to tenants, noting housing units in Greater Male' Region will be completed and handed over in the middle of next year.
