Gov’t says 2023 state budget will be more beneficial

The President’s Office has stated that the proposed state budget for 2023 will be more beneficial to the public.

Speaking to PSM News, Minister at the President’s Office Ali Shiyam responded to criticisms about the size of the budget and said that it is for the public to decide, as the budget should be judged based on its allocation of funds for housing, education, health and other areas that directly benefit citizens.

Additionally, Minister Shiyam said the proposed state budget clearly shows the development initiatives planned for the northernmost atolls, which will have a larger impact on the rest of the country. He said the budget also shows the development plans for travel and transport to increase connectivity in the atolls and the development of the health sector, adding that all these projects will benefit the public.

Furthermore, Minister Shiyam said the proposed state budget for 2023 was formulated to fulfill the pledges made by President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih and meet the expectations of the public. He said the highest priority is to solve longstanding issues and provide essential services to all citizens as well as bring about revolutionary changes to the economy and society as a whole.
