HDC inspects 1,000 flats in Hulhumale’ Phase I

Housing Development Corporation (HDC) has begun inspecting 1,000 flats in Hulhumale’ Phase I.

HDC stated that its staff is conducting the inspection to identify the current status of the buildings and to come up with the scope of refurbishment needed. The company stated that many issues have been found at the old flats, which has resulted in numerous costly renovations. HDC stated that the issues have the potential for major damages and that a physical inspection needs to be conducted to determine the cost of renovations needed for the buildings.

Residents began moving to Hulhumale’ in 2004. At the time, the newly reclaimed island had 210 flats, 120 land plots, and 34 commercial units. The residents living in the old flats have also expressed concern over the signs of wear and tear found inside the buildings.
