Japan officially hands over newly constructed classrooms

Ambassador of Japan to the Maldives Takeuchi Midori has officially handed over the completed new building to Foakaidhoo School under the Grant Assistance for Grass-Roots Human Security Project (GGP).

The assistance is in line with the Grant Contract signed between the Embassy of Japan in the Maldives and Foakaidhoo School on February 20, 2020. Under the grant, USD82,522 was donated to construct two classrooms. The main objective of this assistance is to ensure quality education for the students. The building will also be utilised as an evacuation place in case of a natural disaster. The project was implemented by Foakaidhoo School with the support of the Ministry of Education.

The GGP is part of the Japanese Official Development Assistance (ODA) implemented by the Embassy of Japan in the Maldives in order to empower people at the grassroots level. Since 1996, the GGP has been implemented in broad areas such as education, environment, health, transportation, and energy in order to contribute to the sustainable development of the Maldives.
