MTCC commences causeway works of Faresmathoda Airport

Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC) has begun preparations to commence the works on the pillars of the highway connecting the airport and Faresmaathoda in Gaafu Dhaalu Atoll. MTCC has already completed major infrastructure works at Faresmathoda Airport.

The Faresmaathoda Causeway Development Project would link the Faresmaathoda Airport with the main island. The project involves constructing an 800m link road between Faresmaathoda Airport and the main island.

MTCC revealed all major works on the airport have now been completed. As such, the runway, airport fire building, and tower have been completed, while the structure of the terminal has been completed. MTCC added the work on the interior of the terminal is currently underway.

The government is working to complete the airport development project before the end of the year. The airport is developed in a reclaimed area of 19.9 hectares which links the small islands in the lagoon of Faresmaathoda. The airport is being developed with a 1,200m runway, taxiway, and apron, along with a terminal building, fire station, and other facilities.

Faresmaathoda Airport is being developed to cater to domestic flights. MTCC was contracted to complete the project at a cost of about USD10 million. The project commenced in early 2021.
