No citizen has to live in fear of Gov't: Economic Minister

Minister of Economic Development Fayyaz Ismail has stated that the greatest satisfaction of the citizens of the Maldives in the past four years under the administration of President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih has been that no citizen has to live in fear of the government.

Speaking on the efforts of the government in the past four years, Minister Fayyaz said that since when President Solih came to power, the fearful atmosphere of the people towards the government has been removed and a safe society has been established. He said the greatest assurance for every citizen today is the freedom of speech and expression without unjust consequences. He said the government has ensured that development and progress can be brought to the people without imprisonment and torture, adding the biggest assurance given to the people with the structural development of the country is that the government will not be unjust.

Additionally, Minister Fayyaz said that 75% of the people in the Maldives did not have access to the most basic services such as water and sewerage when President Solih came to power. He said that decentralisation is one of the most important foundations of structural development and it has been ensured without any distinction by the administration. He added the government has ensured that political differences are not an obstacle to the development of an island.
