Fenaka Corporation Limited has begun training its employees to operate 14 ice plants.

The training programme began after Fenaka took over operations of 14 ice plants previously operated by Maldives Industrial Fisheries Limited (MIFCO). The ice plants are in Ihavandhoo in Haa Alifu Atoll, Lhohi in Noonu Atoll, Alifushi in Raa Atoll, Thulhaadhoo in Baa Atoll, Nilandhoo in Faafu Atoll, Hirilandhoo in Thaa Atoll, as well as Dhaandhoo, Dhevvadhoo, Gemanafushi, and Kolamaafushi in Gaafu Alifu Atoll, Fiyoaree and Faresmaathodaa in Gaafu Dhaalu Atoll, and Hithadhoo in Addu City.

Fenaka is training its staff with assistance from the Maldives Institute of Technology (MIT). The institute has begun a refrigeration and maintenance course with 32 employees of Fenaka. The course aims to train the employees in refrigeration skills and improve the company’s services.

The current workers at the ice plants have not received any training in refrigeration. By completing the course, they will receive a Level-3 Certificate in Refrigeration and Maintenance. The participants will also be taught how to maintain safety standards at work and will be taught the electrical and electronics principles, refrigeration science, as well as how to use the various refrigeration equipment.

After the completion of the course, two workers will be transferred to each ice plant and they will have the necessary skills to solve the issues at the plants. Employees of Fenaka will receive opportunities in the future to further their training with additional level courses.
