MSS to establish routes to Thailand and China

Maldives State Shipping (MSS) has stated that it will soon establish routes to Thailand and China.

Speaking to PSM News, Managing Director of State Trading Organisation (STO) Hussain Amr said the aim of MSS is to expand into more sectors to conveniently provide goods to Maldivians. He noted that the company began its services during the COVID-19 pandemic and played a large role in bringing essential goods such as staple foods to the country.

Furthermore, Amr highlighted the importance of the Maldives having its own shipping line, as it is heavily reliant on imports. He said MSS will soon establish routes to Thailand and China and transport goods from those countries. He noted that the company has become profitable in a short period of time and that it is working to train more Maldivians for the shipping industry.

MSS is a shipping and logistics company owned by STO, offering an extensive international liner shipping service. MSS began its services in 2020 to reduce the price of goods imported into the country. The company has purchased three vessels, which are two container ships and one 44,000t bulk carrier. The bulk carrier transports construction material from Dubai, United Arab Emirates (UAE) to Male’ City while the container ships transport goods between Colombo, Sri Lanka, and Male’ and between Singapore and Male’.
