Hithaadhoo water and sewerage project to conclude in January

Hithaadhoo Island Council has stated the government-initiated water and sewerage system on the island will be concluded by January next year.

Mohan Mutha Exports was awarded the water and sewerage project in Hithaadhoo, Baa Atoll. Initially, the project was expected to be completed by August this year. However, delays were caused due to challenges in receiving material and equipment for the project. The project commenced in November 2020 and is nearing completion despite the challenges faced due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Hithaadhoo Island Council revealed installation of the two reverse osmosis (RO) plants and water storage tanks has been completed. As part of the project, two tanks for storing water produced by the RO plant and one tank for storing rainwater have been installed. Meanwhile, pipelines for rainwater collection, installation of water meters, and boreholes for water harvesting have also been completed. The island council has stated only pending of the water system is the construction of the sea outfall.

Furthermore, Hithaadhoo Island Council stated the main sewerage network has been installed for the sewerage works and connections have been provided to all households. The work is currently underway for the construction of pump stations and sea outfalls in two areas of the islands. As part of the project, 290 households will be given the connection.
