The government of the Maldives has decided to forgive fines totalling USD33,000 imposed on some tenants of Sinamale’ Flat 4 in Villimale’.
Male’ City Council made the request to forgive the fines for the tenants of Sinamale’ Flat 4 after which the Ministry of Finance sent a letter signed by Minister of Finance Ibrahim Ameer stating that the fines have been forgiven.
Male’ City Council stated that it requested the government to forgive fines for the tenants of six social housing projects in Male’ City and Villimale’. The government had previously made similar decisions to forgive fines for tenants living in social housing units, and notably postponed the payment of rent during the COVID-19 pandemic.
