MTCC to develop harbours in Finey and Muli

Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC) has been contracted to develop harbours in Finey in Haa Dhaalu Atoll, and Muli in Meemu Atoll.

The agreements were signed by the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of MTCC Adam Azim and the Director General at the Ministry of National Planning, Housing and Infrastructure Fathimath Shaana Farooq.

MTCC is tasked with developing a 248m harbour in Finey. The island has a population of 600 residents and its existing harbour is old and lacks the necessary space. As part of the project, the company will be building a 219m outer wall, a revetment, harbour payment, and installing streetlights. It will also be building an access platform needed for the Raajje Transport Link (RTL) high-speed ferry service. It is tasked with completing the project within 15 months at a cost of USD3 million.

Furthermore, MTCC is tasked with developing a 479m harbour in Muli. The island has a population of over 6,000 residents and its existing harbour has been showing signs of wear and tear. The company will also be building a 465m outer wall, 89m revetment, a ramp, a concrete bridge payment, and installing streetlights. It is tasked with completing the project within 18 months at a cost of USD4.3 million.

MTCC has also signed an agreement to develop shore protection structures in Rasmaadhoo, Raa Atoll. Under the agreement, the company will be building a 157m revetment, a 283m groyne, and filling the coastline with 2,500cbm of sand.

Rasmaadhoo is facing the impacts of erosion and MTCC built shore protection structures on the northern side of the island earlier this year. The company is now tasked with building the structures on the southern side within seven months at a cost of USD5.7 million.
