Maa Hoara-3 fishing vessel, operated in Ihavandhoo, Haa Alifu Atoll, has set the record for the most fish caught in a single day.
Maa Hoara-3 arrived at Ensis Fish Processing Factory on November 6, with 11 tonnes of fish. Deputy Operations Manager at Ensis Fisheries Private Limited Ahmed Mohamed said Maa Hoara-3 caught 11.86 tonnes of fish and was paid USD42,378. He added it is a record in the history of Ensis Fisheries, noting it is the first time such a huge amount of fish had been purchased from a single vessel within a day. The record was previously held by Zoom Fisher from Rasdhoo, Alifu Alifu Atoll. with 11.5 tonnes of fish caught in a single day.
Meanwhile, TS Line from Madaveli, Gaafu Dhaalu Atoll, set a record by catching 57.1 tonnes of skipjack tuna in September and received USD63,234.
