Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Embassy of South Korea in the Maldives have held the Maldives-Korea Festival to commemorate the 55th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations.
Minister of Youth, Sports and Community Empowerment Ahmed Mahloof was the chief guest at the Maldives-Korea Festival held at Schwack cinema in Hulhumale’. A special Taekwondo demonstration was performed and a Korean movie was screened at the event.
Speaking at the event, Ambassador of South Korea to the Maldives Woonjin Jeong noted the close diplomatic relations between the two countries and their efforts to work together bilaterally in areas of mutual interest. He said the diplomatic relations between the Maldives and South Korea set an example for other countries and that the Maldives is a popular travel destination for South Koreans.
Also at the event, Minister Mahloof said South Korea is notable for its rich culture and its arts and entertainment industry, which has become popular across the globe. He said that the two countries will continue to work together to further develop relations, as well as increase cooperation in culture and sports, adding that the government is working to make Taekwondo a national-level sport.
