RDC begins fieldwork to develop Kolamaafushi roads

Road Development Corporation Limited (RDC) has begun the fieldwork of paving major roads with asphalt in Kolamaafushi, Gaafu Alifu Atoll.

The Ministry of National Planning, Housing and Infrastructure awarded the contract to RDC on January 6, 2022. Under the project, RDC is tasked with paving 408km of roads in Kolamaafushi with asphalt and installing a stormwater drainage system on the roads which are being developed. The project also involves the installation of streetlights.

The project was contracted to RDC on a design-and-build basis, at a price of USD5.5 million. The duration allocated for the project is 450 days. RDC stated that cable junctions and pipelines are currently being laid and the casting of additional cable junctions is also underway.

Kolamaafushi has a population of 1,668. The government is currently undertaking 10 development projects on the island.
