RDC begins Villingili road development project

The Road Development Corporation (RDC) has commenced the road development project in Villingili, Gaafu Alifu Atoll. RDC said the cable junction and pipeline work is currently underway.

President of Villingili Island Council Vishal Mohamed said that phase one of the road construction was carried out years ago, adding the project was not completed. He revealed there is no water drainage system and the street lights were also not replaced. He said the island is usually flooded in the rainy season which causes many difficulties for the residents. He expressed hope the completion of phase 2 of the road project will permanently solve many issues.

As part of the project, 13 roads are developed by laying asphalt. The project will develop 5km of road, establish a water drainage system and install street lights. The project is handed over to RDC to be completed within 490 days at a cost of USD6.4 million.
