Maalhos Council thanks President for water and sewerage projects

Maalhos Island Council has thanked President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih for fulfilling his pledge to commence water supply and sewerage projects on the island.

In a meeting held at the President's Office, President Solih held talks with members of the Maalhos Island Council and the Women’s Development Committee (WDC) to discuss the development of Maalhos, Baa Atoll. During the meeting, the council expressed their gratitude for the ongoing development projects on the island, noting that previous governments had neglected small island communities. They also highlighted issues of concern including the condition of the harbour and requested the president to expedite the harbour development project.

Additionally, the members of Maalhos Island Council and WDC requested that Hibalhidhoo be placed under the council’s jurisdiction and asked that the government provide assistance to solve the space constraints at the mosque and to hold religious programmes. They further expressed the need for more sports-related resources.

At the meeting, President Solih disclosed the latest information on the development projects planned for Maalhos. He also said he will speak with the relevant authorities to solve the issues and concerns raised by the council and WDC. He further said the government will continue to hold discussions with the local councils as part of its efforts to develop the atolls.
