Maldives and World Bank discuss providing financial assistance

The government of the Maldives and the World have held a meeting to discuss ways the institution can financially assist the country.

The meeting was held between Minister of Finance Ibrahim Ameer and other senior ministry officials and the Vice President of the World Bank for South Asia Martin Raiser. Discussions included the country’s macroeconomic developments, development goals, and ways the World Bank can help the government’s transformational agenda by unlocking financing through a focused approach.

After the meeting, Vice President Raiser thanked Minister Ameer for a productive meeting and said he was pleased to see the ministry’s efforts at fiscal adjustment, describing it as an important step towards resilience and rebuilding buffers in the face of global challenges. He added that the World Bank will continue to support the reforms for the resilient development of the Maldives.

Vice President Raiser is leading a delegation from the World Bank that arrived in the Maldives on a four-day official visit. Upon his arrival, he expressed hope to engage with clients and partners, explore new opportunities for transformative growth, and learn more about development priorities to confront a challenging global context.
