Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC) has been contracted to develop the harbour in Milandhoo, Shaviyani Atoll.
The agreement was signed by Director General at the Ministry of National Planning, Housing and Infrastructure Fathimath Shaana Farooq and the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of MTCC Adam Azim. Minister of State Akram Kamaluddeen and Parliamentarian Ali Riza attended the ceremony. MTCC is tasked with completing the development of the Milandhoo harbour within two and a half years at a cost of USD5 million.
Speaking at the ceremony, CEO Azim said that the project will be conducted after extensive planning and that the harbour will be one of the most modern and well-developed in the country once it is built. He added that the harbour will have ferry platforms.
Also at the ceremony, Parliamentarian Riza said that the harbour development project will also initiate the project to build coastal protection structures in Milandhoo. He said that the residents of the island are greatly expecting the completion of the projects.
MTCC is tasked with conducting operations of 17,900cbm at the existing harbour, as well as developing a new harbour after dredging 70,400cbm. Other works include extending the channel by 8,400cbm and building a 93m revetment. The state-owned company was also tasked with building coastal protection structures in Milandhoo in May.
