Pipes being installed at second segment of Ameenee Magu

Road Development Corporation (RDC) has begun installing the water supply and sewerage pipes at the second segment of Ameenee Magu.

RDC began work on the second segment on December 3. The segment consists of 136m of the road between Irudheymaa Hingun and Kalaafaanu Hingun. Observers from utility and telecommunications companies are at the site as workers install the pipes, the stormwater drainage network, and curbstones.

RDC stated that each segment will be opened to vehicular traffic after leveling the ground but before laying the asphalt. The work to lay the asphalt will begin after the completion of the segments up to Billabong High International School. It also stated that it now has information on the layout of the cables and pipes under the road and therefore, the speed of the work will be accelerated.

The modernisation of Ameenee Magu, one of the main roads connecting all the neighbourhoods of the city, is being carried out in 13 segments. The project involves paving the whole 1.7km length of Ameenee Magu with asphalt and installing a new stormwater drainage system. Ministry of National Planning, Housing and Infrastructure contracted RDC in July to complete the project within seven months at a price of USD5.5 million.
