Flydubai gives new hope to southern atolls

Minister of Tourism Dr. Abdulla Mausoom has stated commencement of Flydubai operations in Addu City will give new hope to tourism in southern atolls.

The lack of direct flights from abroad to Gan International Airport (GIA) in Addu is one of the reasons why tourism in the area has not developed so far. However, the challenge is being resolved with the launch of Flydubai flights to Addu.

Speaking to PSM News, Minister Mausoom said it is important to promote tourism in the south of the country at a momentous time when tourism is booming in the Maldives, adding the ministry is exerting efforts to promote tourism in new areas. As such, the minister revealed one main objective of the ministry is to provide necessary assistance to the businesses operating in the tourism sector of Addu city.

Flydubai, an United Arab Emirates (UAE) government-owned low-cost airline, is preparing to launch direct flights to Addu from February 4, 2023, and connect the city with 250 destinations. The flights will be operated from Dubai International Airport to GIA.
