Imports increase by 15% in November

The Maldives Customs Service (MCS) has revealed the value of imports increased by 15% in November this year compared to the same period last year.

The statistics of MCS show that goods worth USD299 million were imported to the Maldives in November last year, which is an increase of 15% compared to the USD260 million received during the same period of last year. Oman, India, the United Arab Emirates (UAE), Singapore, and China, were the biggest contributors to imports. As such, USD49.5 million in goods were imported from Oman, USD49 million in goods were imported from India, USD38 million were imported from the UAE, USD30 million were imported from China, and USD27 million were imported from Singapore. The largest imports were oil products, food products, machinery, and electrical equipment.

Meanwhile, exports from the Maldives decreased in November this year. As such, goods worth USD10 million were exported from the Maldives in November 2021 while the figure stood at USD11 million in November this year, which is a decrease of 5%. Among the most exported items include various frozen fish products.

The statistics showed the revenue in November also increased this year with the increase in the value of imports. The Maldives received revenue of USD20 million in November last year while Maldives recorded revenue of USD23 million in November this year.
