Minister of Education Dr. Aishath Ali has said that efforts are being made to convert two schools in two regions of the Maldives into model holistic education schools including the Gnaviyani Atoll Education Centre in Fuvahmulah City. She made the remarks while speaking at the function held to commemorate the 40th anniversary of the Gnaviyani Atoll Education Centre.
Speaking at the ceremony, Minister Aishath said the future of the education centre is very bright. She said that President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih decided to develop two schools in the north and south of the country as model schools to introduce holistic education, focusing on academic and social needs and one of these schools is the Gnaviyani Atoll Education Centre. She also said that many important efforts have been done to develop the school's learning model.
During the function, the long-serving staff of the educational institution were presented with plaques of appreciation, with Vice President Faisal Naseem and Minister Aishath handing over plaques to staff who had served the institution for over 30 years. The function was held to appreciate the management and teachers who had served the institution since its inception.
The Gnaviyani Atoll Education Center was opened on April 20, 1982, and caters to students in grades 7-12. The school currently has more than 450 students. The 40th anniversary of the school was celebrated in the presence of several senior officials of the education sector, school officials, parents and students.
