Hithadhoo Port development project to begin soon: MPL

The Chief Executive Officer of Maldives Ports Limited (MPL) stated that the development of Addu International Port in Hithadhoo, Addu City will commence soon without any delay. He made the remarks while speaking at the ceremony held to commemorate the 17th Anniversary of the Hithadhoo Port.

Speaking at the ceremony, Shahid said that the project would provide further progress to the economic activities of the south. Referring to the plan of the present government to develop the port, he said the port development project would start soon. Once completed, he said the project will provide a 200m road bridge for cargo vehicles from abroad and a 165m road bridge for domestic vehicles and will also bring about major changes in the operational capacity of the port.

In addition to the Hithadhoo Port, Shahid said that the Kulhudhuffushi Port is also being developed. He said that both projects are being handed over to the Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC). MPL is developing a commercial port for Male' City as well.

During the ceremony, two employees who retired after long service for the Hithadhoo Port were presented with plaques of appreciation. In addition, 26 employees who have served the company for 10 years and 13 employees who have served for more than 15 years were also awarded plaques.
