Average tourist arrivals reach over 5,000 per day in 2022

Ministry of Tourism has revealed that the average number of tourist arrivals in the Maldives has reached more than 5,000 per day so far in December 2022. It is the first time so far this year that the number of tourist arrivals has reached such a high level.

The latest statistics published in the Tourism Update Report 2022 released by the tourism ministry show that an average of 5,346 tourists arrived in the country from December 1-14. The highest number of tourists arrived in February which saw an average of 5,322 tourists per day.

The statistics show that the daily average in January was 4.250 tourists, 5,322 in February, 4,863 in March, 4,843 in April, 4,049 in May, 3,696 in June, 4,308 in July, 4,254 in August, 3,733 in September, 4,959 in October, 4,896 in November, and 5,346 during the first 14 days of December.

So far in December, 74,840 tourists visited the Maldives which is a 10.3% increase compared to 67,833 arrivals in 2019, according to the report. A total of two million tourists have visited the Maldives so far this year which is a 27.6% increase compared to 2021. The tourism ministry aims to attract 1.6 million tourists this year. The ministry said the figure will be reached by the end of the month.

The statistics show that the highest number of tourists visited from India, with 224,640 arrivals. The second highest number of tourists visiting from Russia with 189,586 arrivals, and the third highest number of tourists visited from the United Kingdom (UK) with 168,123 arrivals.

There are currently 33 international airlines flying to the Maldives with more airlines scheduled to start flights later this month and early next year.
