Maafushi Island Council has opened the Youth and Community Centre after 10 years. The centre was opened by the President of the Guest House Association of the Maldives (GAM) Abdulla Nasheed.
President of the Maafushi Island Council Hassan Solah said the centre was built with the budget of the local council. He said the centre was previously unused due to the lack of facilities but has been reopened with air conditioning and sports facilities for youth. He said the centre has two billiard tables, table tennis, carrom and chess facilities. He said that one of the two billiard tables was donated by the Ministry of Youth, Sports and Community Empowerment and the other table was donated by Kaani Beach Hotel. He said efforts are underway to establish additional facilities and plans to build a video game area and an outdoor volleyball court in the future.
The Maafushi Youth and Community Centre will be open daily from 1600-1800hrs.
