MTCC begins erecting Faresmaathoda causeway columns

Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC) has begun erecting the columns for the causeway being built in Faresmaathoda, Gaafu Dhaalu Atoll.

MTCC began the fieldwork for the project in June. The causeway is being built to link the Faresmaathoda Airport to the main island.

Speaking to PSM News, Minister of National Planning, Housing and Infrastructure Mohamed Aslam said the project is expected to be completed in May next year. He said that the airport will be opened beforehand and that individuals will be able to travel to the airport conveniently on vessels even after the causeway is built.

The development of Faresmaathoda Airport commenced in January 2021 and is expected to be completed in February next year and handed over to Regional Airports Company Limited (RACL). MTCC is developing the airport to cater to domestic flights.
