MPS urges to secure properties during holidays

Maldives Police Service (MPS) has advised individuals to take care of homes and properties before leaving for the first term school holidays.

MPS advised making sure that the fanlights and air conditioning are turned off, and windows and balcony doors are properly locked. MPS stated that it is wise to consider a potential house fire and check gas cylinders for any leaks as a precaution or unplug the gas cylinder regulator before leaving for the holidays. Additionally, MPS stated to check the electrical status before leaving so that there is no power shortage, adding it is a vital step to avoid a potentially dangerous incident.

MPS stated that it is also important to ensure the safety and security of personal vehicles before leaving for vacation. As such, MPS urged to park vehicles in a well-lit area at night, on a public road, or in a safe area with CCTV cameras. MPS also advised people to lock their doors and shutters and not to leave them unlocked. MPS said that following these measures will greatly reduce the number of crimes.

Meanwhile, Maldives National Defence Force (MNDF) has launched an operation to check if safety measures are implemented on sea vessels. MNDF will be conducting the operation until January 8.
