The Judicial Service Commission (JSC) has concluded the Judiciary for Juniors workshop for youth who have an interest in the judicial field.
The eight-day programme was launched in collaboration with the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), the United Kingdom (UK) Aid and the JSC. The programme was aimed at young people between the ages of 16-20. Supreme Court Justice Husnu Al Suood and Resident Representative of UNDP Maldives Enrico Gaveglia presented certificates to the participants at the closing ceremony.
Speaking at the ceremony, Justice Husnu said that everyone should imagine a society without a judicial system. He said that if there is a situation where major issues have to be solved on their own, society will see division and bloodshed. He said that it also shows the importance of an inclusive judicial system, adding that many agencies and institutions related to the judicial system are working together.
Meanwhile, Chief Judicial Administrator Aishath Rizna said the participants were given the experience of working from the Supreme Court to the Magistrate Court. She said that these included attending court hearings and observing the progress of administrative work with judges and lawyers.
The participants visited the High Court and the Gulhee Magistrate Court. They also met with the Attorney General's Office (AGO) and the Prosecutor General's Office (PGO), as well as the heads of institutions. Students studying courses related to the judicial field and 38 youths interested in the field participated in the programme.
JSC stated that this is the first time such a programme has been conducted on such a large scale. It is also the first of its kind for newly graduated students to increase their interest in the judicial field and more such programmes will be held in the future.
