Kendhikulhudhoo Island Council opens land plots for agriculture

Kendhikulhudhoo Island Council has opened 19 plots of land allocated for agriculture in two areas in Kendhikulhudhoo, Noonu Atoll. A total of 10 plots of 2,850 acres and nine plots of 5,000 acres will be allocated as part of the initiative.

Speaking to PSM News, President of Kendhikulhudhoo Island Council Mohamed Rauf said the aim of allocating land for agriculture is to increase the number of farmers and strengthen the economy of the island. He said that Kendhikulhudhoo has always been an agricultural island. He, however, noted that agricultural activities on the island have been stalled due to the allocation of land for housing needs.

Additionally, Rauf said that the lack of land for agriculture is a major complaint of the residents. He, therefore, said the complaints of the people will be resolved with the allocation of land for agriculture. He also said that allocating land for agriculture for the month of Ramadan will benefit the residents of the island.

There are two areas to be used for agriculture. The starting price for the land plots is USD0.32 per acre. Those interested in the land plots should submit a letter to the island council before January 5, 2023.
