Dhigufaru and Dhekenenfaru allocated for tourism development

The Ministry of Tourism has announced that Dhigufaru and Dhekenenfaru in Noonu Atoll have been included for tourism development on a cross-subsidy basis.

The island and lagoon have been included in the list of islands, plots of land, and lagoons allocated for tourism development on a cross-subsidy basis. The list also includes Kudalhaimendhoo in Shaviyani Atoll, Kunnamalei in Noonu Atoll, Meyyafushi in Lhaviyani Atoll, Dhiffushi and Kalhufahalafushi in Thaa Atoll, and Fulangi in Gaafu Alifu Atoll. The list is approved by President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih and is subject to changes.

The government has been allocating land plots and islands to private parties willing to develop or finance the development of projects for economic and public benefit. The operation of the business will be handed over to the party after the payment is made to the government after the completion of the project. If the party fails to adhere to the agreement, both the project and lease agreements will be terminated. The president also has the authority to extend the payment period from 60 days to a maximum of 180 days.
